Latest information on the bins strike

Members of the National Association of Local Government Officers are currently striking on certain days each week. Unfortunately this means there will be some disruption to your bin collections.

Whilst the industrial action is taking place, please continue to put your main bin out on your normal binday. If it doesn't get collected that day, please leave it out so we can collect it as soon as we can later - some staff will be collecting at the weekend in order to catch up.

We are very sorry for the disruption the strike is causing, and are working to resolve the dispute with NALGO as soon as possible.

Other action

The bin crews will also be Working to Rule on other days and will not be doing any overtime. This, sadly, means some collections may be missed on other days too. We are unfortunately having to stop collecting the recycling bins whilst the action is taking place.

What we will do

Needless to say, we are working as hard as we can to resolve the dispute with NALGO.

Additionally,

  • We aim to still collect your bins one day a week even when it is not your usual day
  • We will collect extra rubbish in bin bags left neatly next to your wheelie bin. This can include paper and cardboard.
  • We will give additional priority to collecting from densely populated areas where more than the average amount of rubbish is generated
  • We will ensure assisted collections still happen.

What you can do

  • If you are able to, please take your tins and bottles recycling to the tip; they will be open for longer hours during the strike period
  • If not, please keep hold of it until we start collecting again; please don't put it in your general bin because it's not good for the incinerator
  • Leave any extra rubbish you're generating neatly in bags next to your bin
  • Continue to report missed collections when they happen

We hope to resume normal service as soon as we can.
